Miranda can't seem to catch a break. She's the lowest rung on the totem pole in Fenn's successful hair salon, mostly stocking shelves and washing hair when she knows she could be a great hair stylist. She can't afford a place of her own, but luckily has found accommodations with an older woman who needs some help about her place. Her best friend, Chloe, has just had her husband walk out when hears the news that Chloe is pregnant. Worst of all, Miranda can't find her own true love. Then things seem to change. She meets and falls for Greg, who seems to be the man of her dreams. He even asks her to marry him and gives her a ring. The thing is, he is the cad that just walked out on Chloe, and when that comes to light, obviously the relationship is over. Miranda meets other men, some attractive, some not, some interested, some not, and continues seeking for the true love that will change her life.
Jill Mansell cannot write a bad book. Her novels are the ultimate feel-good, picker-upper books when one needs some relief from the unending drama of heavier novels. The characters are always engaging and endearing. The plots are complicated, yet all seems to end up well, with the good guys always triumphing in the end. Readers will turn the last page with a smile on their face, satisfied that all has worked out for the best. This book is recommended for readers who enjoy a light optimistic read which leaves them feeling that all is right with the world.

Miranda Big Mistake Jill Mansell 9780747261315 Books Reviews
This was the first book I had read by Jill Mansell and I chose this one based on the fact that it got the best reviews of all her books here on . I am SO glad I did! This book was just a fantastic read from beginning to end. At first I was worried that it might be too long, as it is way longer than your average "chick lit" book (close to 500 pages in print). I was pleasantly surprised to find the book did not drag at all or even feel long. It felt just right.
In this book Jill Mansell has created a wonderful cast of characters, both major and minor. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about all of them. In fact, I actually liked some of the side stories (especially Chloe's) more than Miranda's. Although I still really liked Miranda's storyline, I looked forward to the parts that focused on Chloe, Florence and even Bev.
I highly recommend this book.
A note on KINDLE formatting formatting was very disappointing. The author puts lots of breaks in her chapters, skipping around from character to character or to show the passing of time, however, you don't know this from the kindle book because most of the breaks are left out, making it very difficult to figure out what is going on at times. Without the designated breaks between sections in a chapter, the book sometimes reads like a puzzle. In fact, when I first started reading it, I thought there was an error in the book and that multiple books had gotten smooshed together into one file. For example, the story starts off with Miranda in the hair salon then all of a sudden, the next sentence is a completely different location (a grocery store) with Chloe. Not knowing that Chloe was a character in the book, I thought something had happened to my book. Then, boom, there was Florence, again, no warning. After doing some research online, I realized they were all characters in the book and that it was not several books stuck together by accident. I got my hands on a print copy of the book and saw that there were supposed to be breaks in the text that never made it in to the version, sadly enough. (Some are there, but most are missing.) It makes for a bit of a jarring read having to figure out what's going on when the time/location/character changes.
Miranda's Big Mistake centers around Miranda, a girl who constantly manages to get herself into tricky situations. She buys lunch for the bum on the corner and will be late to work because she is rescuing a poor dog from the street. She lives with Florence, whose son owns a shop where Chloe works. Chloe finds out she is pregnant and dreads breaking the news to her husband, and for good reason - he leaves her, and Chloe moves in with Florence and Miranda. Miranda finds herself tangled up with Chloe's ex-husband, Greg, and that is just the beginning of the relationship craziness that Miranda gets herself into.
I absolutely love this book. Miranda is such a funny character, and the situations she finds herself in are hilarious and oftentimes, even though I cringe a bit, I am envious of her. She is so well-meaning all of the time, but she is also quite oblivious, which I think most people are when it comes to love, and she is instantly likeable. Chloe is also easy to like, and her situation is so sad in the beginning that I felt for her.
But of course, my favorite character in the book is Danny Delancey. I think I love him. He sounds absolutely gorgeous and is such a tease with Miranda. The banter between them (and honestly, all characters in the book) is hysterical. There were lots of times I laughed out loud at the things the characters were saying to each other, especially Danny. I want my very own Danny Delancey!
Overall, the story does have a lot going on, but the central characters' relationships are better built because of the other characters' lives. I really enjoyed reading about all of the characters. In the edition of this book, there are some formatting errors that were kind of obnoxious, but I don't want to take any stars away because I truly loved the story.
